From the Neighborhood, For the Neighborhood

Wayne Kaiwi grew up understanding that life isn’t always a straight road. At 18, he made choices that led to incarceration — a chapter of his life he doesn’t shy away from, because it’s part of what shaped who he became. In that difficult season, he learned what accountability truly means, what responsibility costs, and what second chances are worth. He came out the other side with a clearer sense of purpose: to serve others, strengthen his community, and never take for granted the gift of a fresh start.

That journey is the reason Wayne stands before District 39 as a candidate today — not in spite of where he’s been, but because of it

That lived experience isn’t background noise for Wayne. It’s the reason he’s running.

Wayne has spent years serving in the trenches of community life, long before a campaign was ever on the table:

  • Kalihi-Kapālama Neighborhood Board — Representative
  • ʻEwa Neighborhood Board — Representative
  • Executive Director, Masons and Plasterers Fraternal Association — Advocating for Hawaiʻi’s construction and labor workforce
  • Co-Founder, Back Dah Blue Hawaiʻi — Supporting law enforcement officers and their families across the islands

Wayne has worked alongside unions, neighborhood boards, and community organizations because he believes that meaningful change happens when people work together — not around each other.

When the State of Hawaiʻi Organization of Police Officers (SHOPO) and Hawaiʻi Teamsters Union Local 996 endorsed Wayne’s campaign, it wasn’t just a political milestone. For Wayne, it was personal.

“For someone who spent time on the wrong side of accountability, having the support of law enforcement means everything to me. It’s a reminder that growth is real, and that trust can be rebuilt through action.”
